YES! makes the HP 8600 usable and practical

So let me start off by saying I bought the HP 8600 because I wanted specifically an AirPrint capable printer to print documents and photos directly from my iPhone and iPad. When the printer went on sale at Costco, it was a no brainer and I took it. That said, when I finally got it set up, I was disappointed with the lack of a manual feed tray for photo paper! So when you want to print pictures, you have to take out Tray 1, remove the 8.5x11 white paper, slide the blue tabs in to accommodate 4x6 photo paper, load the 4x6 photo paper, and then print. Then when you are done with that, you have to do it all again to reload the regular white paper for printing documents or faxes. WHAT A PAIN!

So naturally, I looked for solutions, which included purchasing the 2nd paper tray. With a lot of mixed reviews about use and installation, I was nervous but finally did it. And I'm glad I did!! The printer immediately recognizes tray 2 during installation (which by the way consists of taking it out of the box and putting the entire printer on top of Tray 2 (easy).

YES - you do have to do some tweaking with the settings to say that tray 2 is default for faxing, copying, and printing. But it's not difficult. Sure I went through some trial and error and wasted a few pieces of photo paper because it kept trying to print documents from Tray 1, but it was fine.

and YES - Tray 2 must be regular paper, not photo paper or other media.

All said and done, my printer is EXACTLY the way I need it to be, without having to manually make any changes. I leave photo paper in Tray 1, and white paper in Tray 2. I don't need to preselect anything (from Printer Properties) when I print documents from any of the PCs in our house. Just print and the printer knows now that Tray 2 has 8.5x11 paper. When I print a photo from my iPhone via AirPrint, it also automatically grabs photo paper from Tray 1 and prints (beautifully, I might add).

Don't be intimidated by the reviews. It didn't take long to configure and when it's done, you get exactly what you are looking for!

Great Add-on

This is a great add-on to the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus. Very simple to install and set up. There has been some discussion about it not operating properly, but one just has to go to HP's Support for proper instructions. Just remember, this second tray becomes your "main" paper tray. Tray arrived from Amazon, actually in one day. Could not be more satisfied.

I purchased the attachment so I could print paper and envelopes without changing paper trays. The device was advertized to do that. What I found was a total lack of directions or support on how to set it up. I had to spend hours looking on blogs to find someone who had the answer. Seems several did, but that did not work for me. HP was absolutely no help. It seems to me that when you purchase a product, the Mfg should make using it a bit easier. Good luck to anyone who needs to do more than print paper from both trays.
