Excellent Printing

The HP932C inkjet printer is designed for the average user at home or office. It comes in a light gray case shaped like other HP printers. It connects to a computer with either an IEEE 1284 parallel cable (DOS or Windows) or a USB cable (Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP). The inkjet cartridge are: #45 for black, #78 for tricolor. HP has long been the leader in inkjet printing. It can also be used with Apple Macintosh computers, see the User's Guide for the Mac.

The paper path is the same U-shaped method used in other HP printers. This minimizes desk space and provides a more compact printer than those that use an oblique paper path. You should connect the cable from the printer to the computer before you apply power to the computer or printer. The power supply is built into the printer and not separate like earlier products. This makes it more difficult to replace if it fails. It is not good practice to keep the printer powered on when not in use; heat is the enemy of electronics.

The User's Guide tells how to set up your printer. Page 55 is for a parallel cable, page 56 for a USB cable. Be sure to read the warnings in Chapter 3 about proper care of inkjet cartridges. Leaving them unused for many months may shorten their useful life. New cartridges have a plastic tape over the nozzles to prevent oxidation of the ink. Do not refill print cartridges, this can void the warranty. The Status light will blink when a print cartridge is low on ink, improperly installed, or malfunctioning. Open the top cover for details. From the front the five lights run left to right for: color cartridge problem, black cartridge problem, color ink low, black ink low, print cartridges OK. Both print cartridges must be present to operate the printer. Leave an empty cartridge in place until it is replaced with a new one.

The Quick Help document has chapters on learning to print on paper and other media, special features, product maintenance, problem solving, and product specifications. The DeskJet Toolbox provides functions like cleaning print cartridges. Print cartridges and the print cartridge cradle can be cleaned manually using distilled water and a clean cotton swab.

There is an accessory to allow Two-Sided Printing on these DeskJet printers: 950C, 952C, 930C, 932C, 935C, 955C, and other products. The guide explains inserting it into the printer and choosing this option on the Toolbox screen.

Very quiet, easily detected by Windows XP Pro

I just tested this printer and found it to work well. The 932C uses USB or parallel connection; I used a USB parallel cable to connect it and the computer detected it correctly within minutes.

Some older HP printers I'd been using were a bit noisy but not this one. I enjoyed that it was quiet when I had it print a few pages. Both color and black ink cartridges in place, black was good but color came out in red or brown. I guess it's time to replace the color one. However, if black or grayscale printing was all I'd need, this printer would be good enough for me.

Good Printer for Reliability

I bought this printer through Craigslist, and it works very well. I had a different HP Deskjet printer previously, but I sold it and went to a laser printer. I made a mistake by going to a laser printer. This inkjet printer is easier to maintain, and it is cost effective to refill the ink cartridges at Walgreens or Cartridge World. The printer does color and of course black/white. The printer hasn't broken down, and I haven't had to change any parts aside from refilling the ink cartridges. It prints at a moderate pace and is probably most suitable for the home office.

Pay no attention the "customer" that did not even buy the product!

The reason this Epson SKU is not found on the Epson website is that this product is intended for RETAIL Sellers. The ink cartridges in this package is true 100% epson product all the way. And even when these cartridges are on sale at [...] the price of the multi-pack tends to be a way better deal. If you want a good deal on the relativly expensive cartridges for the 1400 this is the ONLY way to go. I am buying these and saving almost $5 off on the price of each cartridge from almost ANY other vendor. So if you want to believe someone who bad-mouths a product they did not even bother to try, go ahead. Just means more saving for me....

Non-Epson Inks

I have used both Epson and non-Epson inks for 1400. I disagree with the one-star rater who stated non-Epson inks don't work. Perhaps some that rater tried did not work but the ones I bought have worked with no problems. (Source store not cited because the name gets redacted anyway.) FWIW, my problems with Epson printers has never been the inks but that they decide to quit feeding paper or CD trays. So far, the 1400 has worked better, lasted longer, and prints better than 200, 300, and 280 I have had.

Star Micronics Receipt Printers are Workhorses, Its install and only replenish consumables.
This Receipt printer is fast and silent, and includes an auto-cutter.
Its excellent for Quickbooks POS, and can be easily networked with a dlink usb printserver.
64bit drivers are included. I never got it to work under 64bit Windows with the dlink usb printserver, it crashes the spooler.exe, the problem may be the dlink.
Get the network version if you need to network this printer.

Delivery time was excellent, I bought 4 and they were shipped in two retail package per box, saving me money for further shipping internationally.

Known Issue - Prone to locking up completely!

EDIT 27 AUG 2010 - There is now a firmware update that addresses the lockup issue. Took them a while to get this out while so many were frustrated, so I won't change my rating. (Delete the spaces) [...]

HP is aware of an issue with the C47XX line of printers where the wireless may lock up the printer completely resulting in a bricked printer. The way this happens is during wireless setup. If the SSID which the printer is looking for is not 13 chars long, wireless setup will fail and there is a good chance that the printer will lock up and display HP logo and infinite progress bar on the LCD display. Nothing will function (some get USB fucntionality) and your printer is now bricked. When this happened to me, I immediately called CS. Their 'fix' was to issue a $140 voucher to HP shopping site for a new printer, since they already know the C47XX line is flawed with no real fix. So I happily accepted the voucher (worth almost twice as much as the printer) and went shopping for anything BUT an HP printer.

But then I decided to tinker around with my new paperweight after I got two nice 8" digital photo frames and a premium webcam free compliments of HP. Using my noggin, I figured if the problem arose from the wireless, then unplugging the wireless module inside might reset the printer. Voila! It worked and, after a few more steps, I had a fully working wireless printer again. Awesome Product

UPDATE (05/06/11):
By now this product is quite old considering all the products out there.
I still love it, it continues to function and uses the least amount of ink when compared to all the printers I have ever used.
I would buy a new one just because when this came out there was not AirPrint support.
The issue with restarting the printer has gone and the printer is always online.

UPDATE (01/23/10):
I have been using it with my wireless network, although after a couple of days I have to restart the printer in order to print from it, otherwise it does not show up in my active printers list.

ORIGINAL POST:
Have been using it for a week.
Scan, copy, printing all work perfect.
Have enjoyed using this printer.
It uses only two inks and they are cheap, a twin pack costs about $30 which is really cheap.
Love it.

Buyer Beware! Problems with Vista

The install and connection to the network went flawlessly. The print quality is very good. Unfortunately, the HP scanner software does not work with Vista. I spent countless hours on the phone with HP tech support. The case was finally referred to the Engineering Department. They are aware of the problem but don't have a fix yet.

By the way, you can use the scanner with the "Windows Photo Gallery" program. I really like the small footprint and the print quality of this all-in-one, and therefore I didn't return it. I will just use the other program until HP can come up with a fix. Because the HP software doesn't work for scanning, I cannot use the button on the printer to scan. I have to go through the PC. That's why I only gave this printer three stars.

This is the HP "bowtie symbol" photo ink

Maybe it is just me, but I find HP's 564 ink designations to sometimes be confusing. This is the photo black, not the everyday black ink. This is the cartridge with the "bowtie" symbol rather than the "pentagon" featured by the ordinary black cartridge. The two are not at all interchangeable. Five stars if that is what you are looking for, and I did not think that the price was out of line. RJB.

Enough with HP products...

HP ink cartridges are notoriously overpriced. I have the photosmart plus. It's a good machine but drinks more ink than a drunken sailor drinks. The cost to keep replacing the ink makes this machine not worth it! The only way to stay out of the poor house with HP printers is to buy aftermarket ink to refill your cartridges. HP protects against this (because they dishonestly make their cartridges run down so fast) by not allowing the computer chip to be reset (can someone out there make a device to do this please). So, you can use aftermarket ink to fill your cartridge but you won't get a read-out on how much ink is left...this is really annoying.

This will likely be my last HP printer...I'm sick of paying them so much for their ink when other companies are so much cheaper and offer the same or better quality products...

Was NOT in the retail packaging and might be refilled

I'm not sure if this is a legit cartridge or not. When I opened the shipping box this cartridge was wrapped in some plastic without the retail casing but it still had the HP logos and markings. However, there was a label placed on the plastic insisting this was a new HP ink cartridge. Unfortunately my printer disagrees and is telling me this is not a genuine HP 564 Photo Black cartridge. Beware of shady seller!

Speedy But Not User Friendly

Speed, at 35 ppm, is what sets this unit apart in a sea of B&W multifunctions with duplex and Wi-Fi connectivity. In real word the speed was more like 25 ppm but the first page is out within 7 seconds - very nice. Real word Duplex speed is 12-15 ppm. In a busy office, speed saves a lot of employee time. But the machine is not user friendly and the time savings it giveth with speed it taketh back with more time in changing the settings and using it. The print quality is acceptable but not as good as my Samsung 1630 and Brother 9840 printers.

Here are some of the annoying things about this multifunction:

1. It came with default setting of silent dial tone and we could not figure out if it was really sending faxes and it took a call to customer service to change that setting.
2. To fax or copy in duplex, you have to change setting each time and cannot set a default duplex mode.
3. To receive duplex fax, we had to call to customer service to change the setting buried in menus.
4. Intensity of black color in print output cannot be changed to save the toner and there is no toner saver mode, or at least I have not been able to figure out so far.
5. To scan, first you have to initiate scanning by pressing a button on the machine and then go into the software on your computer to start scanning - very time consuming and annoying.

In the end I have very mixed feelings about this machine. Returning a heavy item like that is not easy either. So think carefully before you buy it because difficulty of using the machine takes away the time you save in speed.

UPDATE December 2011: I needed another one of B&W Multifunction machines and bought Brother MFC-8890DW High-Performance All-in-One Laser Printer which at 32 ppm is not as fast as these Canon, but more user friendly and has a much better print quality. Since I bought this Canon, they have dropped the price by more than hundred bucks, so if money is your main consideration, then it is not a bad buy at less that three hundred now.

Fast but not simple

This item is fast, works well with duplexing, but is not automatic with its scanning vs printing.
When the computer asks to scan, I must push buttons the the Canon to get it to go into FAX mode.
It is a lot pricey on toner at the local office stores and is hard to find discount toner, due to it being new, and it goes into energy saving mode, thus having to press two buttons to make a copy.
I don't rate this machine very high. I have seen a lot better.

Workhorse

This copier is in use at a day care and runs on average 4000 copies a month. I have gone through 20,000 copies and the copier has worked tirelessly and without a single page getting jammed to date. Very pleased with the results - given what the day care was paying at the local kinkos - the copier paid for itself within the first three months. I also use after market toner and the copier works with it without complaints.

Missing Shipment

Not happy as I did not receive my order. After inquiring about it, I was given an RSPS Tracker which showed delivery to my facility, but no one here acknowledges receipt. They could not provide a signature of who received it and I was told to ask my neighbors to see if it was delivered there. We are a manufacturing facility situated in a residental neighborhood. I cannot possibly do that . This turned out to be a big waste of time and money.

Money well spent

These non-OEM G&G brand cartridges were completely compatible with the Kodak All-In-One printer for which I ordered them. What I noticed immediately was the weight of the cartridges; much heavier in the hand than the OEM cartridges, and obviously loaded with ink. The savings were double because these off-brand G&G brand replacement cartridges seem to contain much more ink, yet are half the price of the Kodak-manufactured or licensed cartridges - which always seem to need replacement after printing only a dozen or so pages in colour. Since receiving and installing these G&G brand replacement cartridges, I have printed a few dozen colour pages, and the ink status icon still shows the colour cartridge as full, whereas it would have been showing as half-depleted were I using an OEM cartridge. These non-Kodak-manufactured replacement cartridges are printing in the same quality as the OEM cartridges I received 'with' my Kodak printer, so the ink in these cartridges must be of high quality and the cartridge well-engineered.
I'm difficult to please, and brutally honest in my opinions, especially as a consumer. I highly recommend this product, and intend to use this brand of cartridge for all my printing needs from this point forward. Finally, I can print to my hearts content without worrying about the high cost of replacing my ink cartridges.

DO NOT BUY FOR KODAK HERO!

I have a Kodak Hero 3.1, and couldn't pass this deal by. I purchased this item from Amazon a few weeks ago. I only needed to replace the black ink at the time I received the items. I was able to print 2-3 prints, and the print gave me an error saying the black ink was not recognized. I am very tech savvy, so I decided to troubleshoot before trying another cartridge. I checked the connections, and reset the printer multiple different ways. I also updated the printer drivers to a current version Still did not work. I then replaced the black ink with the 2nd cartridge included. Again, wouldn't recognize it. I then put the original Kodak cartridge back in, even though it was low on ink. Printer recognized it immediately. I then tried the color cartridge, AGAIN IT WAS NOT RECOGNIZED BY THE PRINTER!!!! I immediately went to a local retailer and purchased Kodak cartridges for a slight premium, but they work perfectly.

If you are thinking about buying these generic cartridges, please keep the box because chances are you will be returning them. The box says they are compatible, but 0 of the 3 I purchased were compatible.

Unfortunately, my wife through the faulty cartridges away before I had the time to package them up to return. The deal looks too good to be true, because it is to good to be true. None of the 3 cartridges included were recognized by the printer.

Wonderful ink for a Kodak printer.

I purchased this ink thinking I would give it a try. I've never had any luck with "knock-off" printer cartridges. Well, that's changed. These work just as good, if not better, than the original Kodak cartridges. I have been using them for over a month and I can honestly tell you that I am getting far more pages printed with these than I ever did with Kodak's cartridges. Buy with confidence!

Exactly what it claims.

These toners are easy to install. One thing though, after the first warning of these toners being low I take them out and check the little round window to see if there is still toner. If there is, I wind back the gear with a peg on it back to its original position. I recently did this with all three colors as it was reported they were going low. After winding back the gears, the printer performed perfectly for another month with a moderate amount of color printing. Finally, the low toner warnings went off again and since there appeared no more toner, I installed new ones. I have a closet full of these consumables and look forward to many great years printing with these printers. (We have 6 of them)

Hidden Menus for Brother 9840cdw-

**Toner Reset Menu - Open front door of printer. Press the 'clear' button once or twice. There are two capacities for each color. It will start counting down from whichever you choose.

**Everything Else Reset Menu - Press '3' and '9' at the same time. Hidden reset menu will appear. Select item, select reset.

A trick to get more pages when printer dispalys 'toner life end'. With the toner access door open, press the clear/back button, from here you can reset each color / high yield or regular. Just follow the menu.

Resetting the Toner Cartridge

When the toner life end message comes up, there are 2 things that need to be done to keep printing. The windows on each side of the cartridge need to be blocked (with electric tape or something similar). And the flag gear on the cartridge needs to be reset. Here is how to do that:
1. Orient cartridge so that you are looking at the end of the cartridge with the 2 phillips head screws, one at the top right, one at the bottom left. You should also see part of the gray flag gear through an opening in the end cap.
2. Remove screws and the end cap they were holding in place (one or 2 gears may fall out when you do this, but they should be simple to pop back into place).
3. Note attachment point of the spring over flag gear, then temporarily remove it so you can reset the gear.
4. Remove the flag gear and reinstall it so that its teeth are just beginning to mesh with the adjoining gear.
5. Reinstall the spring.
6. Reinstall the end cap.
You can also reset the cartridge from the printer. But this will only temporarily override the toner end of life message and allow you to print a few more pages. Here are the instructions for that:
1. With power on, open the toner access main door (You will get a "door open" message in the LCD.)
2. Hit the "Clear/Back" button and you go right to the "Toner Reset Menu"
3. Using the up & down "Search" arrow buttons, you can then scroll through reset options for each of the printer's [4] toner cartridges.
Code: B-TNR-H = black, C-TNR-H = cyan; M-TNR-H = magenta and Y-TNR-H = yellow. The H is for high yield.
4. Highlight the toner you want to reset and hit the OK button.
5. Hit the "Clear/Back" button to get out of the menu, close door.

This is a great deal on everyday paper. Not for letterhead.

This paper works equally well in my laser and dot matrix printers. The price is excellent. And the company plants three trees for every one it harvests. It is 92 bright 20 pound paper, which means that it has a gray-ish cast to it and it has no heavy, cottony feel. You won't want to use it for letterhead or photos. You can print out tax forms, recipes, directions to that place you're going, your kids' homework, file copies of letters or work stuff, and anything else you want without going broke over it or killing the environment, though. Win - win.

It's Paper Guys!

Just arrived today, right in the nick of time too. Its standard printer paper to me, does what it is suppose to do and isn't as thin as other folks that reviewed before me made it out to be. Yes it is a little lighter but its not see thru or heavy like photo stock paper. The price is right for all the sheets you get and for a small business owner I need to focus on my bottom line as much as possible not dumb stuff like is the printer paper light or heavy. Would recommend and I will definitely be ordering this product again.

I load them up to my HP Deskjet 460, it doesn't prink, shows Black Cartridge malfunctioning !...I took the black out, just leave the color one on, it starts to print!...well, for the money , worth it, as I usually buy from Office Depot, which costs almost hundred dollars.

Perfect for bottle labels

I use these as labels for bottles. It is the perfect size for labeling 12.7 ounce bottles. The positive points are:

1 - They do not jam, bend or otherwise get messed up during the printing cycle.
2 - They peel easily from the sheet, but stick VERY firmly to glass.
3 - They are thick enough so that they can be applied to bottles smoothly with no wrinkles. This is a HUGE advantage over some other types of labels we have tried.
4 - The 5264 template is built in to most major software packages. Setting up the labels for printing was a breeze.

The negatives are: Haven't found any yet!

One reviewer mentioned that he had problems removing labels once they were applied to bottles. First, that's generally a good thing. The last thing I would want to happen is to have the labels just slide off after getting wet or being subjected to temperature changes. However I tried removing labels for the first time last week and didn't really find it all that hard. What I did was rinse the bottles with hot running water for a couple of minutes. I then places the bottles in a boiling water bath for 5 minutes. The labels peeled right off for the most part. In a couple of cases there was a bit of adhesive left on bottles, but that rubbed off easily enough while the bottle was still hot.

My wife actually then used a bit of an environmentally friendly degreaser on a bottle that was not boiled, and that seemed to remove the adhesive easily enough as well.

I highly recommend this product.

I bought these to use as beer bottle labels

I bought these to self-label my self-made beer. They work great, but they DO NOT come off easily once you're ready to reuse the bottle - even with soaking. I gave up on them because the adhesive was TOO sticky. I'm sure they're absolutely great for any other purpose where you need them to stick well.

Extremely competive label/banner printer

I recently purchased this machine for around $100. I have owned label writers in the past and this machine is performing even better than the much more expensive Dymo models. Some of the features that I find unique and usefull are the continueous tape option for banners and the speed at which this machine prints. It prints much faster than previous models I have owned. This label printer has been very easy to set up. The only thing is I might opt for the step up QL-550 next time because it has an auto cutter build in. But in defense of the QL-500, it's manual cutter is very easy to use too and has been a non issue.

small, simple, super-fast and good price

This has proved to be an excellent buy - we use this all the time for our address labels, but also labelling everything we need around here from Jam, to bags to our business - and it runs so quickly and easily.

What do I really like about this - well it was quick and easy to set up - not just load the software on to the computer, but to fit the consumables in - it needs special spools to run - they slip in and out in a flash so if you are printing different sized labels you can refit them quickly

The size of the printer itself is great, it is light and compact which means it can be slipped into a corner when not in use, or quickly plugged in

I love the fact it doesn't use ink so no replacing ink cartridges or watching flashing lights etc.

It didn't take too long to find my way around the software, I was a bit annoyed at first you couldn't easily access a box for number of labels you want printed - but then you can't have every feature right there on the desktop - and there is already a great deal to cope with in terms of options.

We were printing simple labels with clip art within minutes and haven't stopped finding uses for it since (neat for backs of photos for instance)

It runs easily from Microsoft software which is also great - printing from letters etc is a breeze.

...and the speed! I couldn't believe how quick it was - it just shoots them out, cutting between labels as it goes

Overall I think this is a very versatile machine with great cross over for business and home use. It has all the elements I like - fast, efficient, easy-to-use, versatile and compact.

Quick, easy AND cheap!

If you've been holding off getting a label-printer due to price, this is the printer for you. Not only has Brother lowered the price point on the printer itself (with rebates it often dips below $50), but Brother's standard address label refills are reasonably priced - about 3-cents each.

Setup on Windows XP is simple, but the iconography in the quick-start instructions manual can be a little frustrating. The printed instructions for label printing are anemic; the on-line (PDF) manual is better. Printing simple address labels is sufficiently intuitive that it can be accomplished without ready the manual.

Finally, this printer is fast! The first time I printed a label I thought the printer was just spinning the roll - turns out it was printing! The only downside I've found so far is that the printer's footprint is larger than some of the more expensive competitors.

Great labeling product

I've been using Brother TZ label tapes for years and they've always worked well and look really good. Now Brother is calling these TZe tapes instead of TZ tapes, and I was concerned that they might be incompatible with my older label maker.

No worries. I wrote Brother and here is the reply I received:

"The TZe tapes are more environmental friendly; plastic weight reduced by
15%, contains 5% recycled plastic, smaller packaging, and energy efficient
film ribbon. The TZe tapes will work in the PT-2430OPC and you should not
have any problems."

It would be nice if the Amazon product description pointed this out. As far as the tapes themselves go, I've used both the standard, the flexible ID tapes, and the extra strength adhesive versions of the labels in a bunch of different sizes (1/4"/6mm to label CD cases, 1"/24mm to label video cassettes) and they've all been great.

In fact the only downside to the labeling system (besides the cost of the tapes) is the 1/2" or so that's wasted each time you print a label, but the PC-connectable label makers and newer models support "chain printing" of labels so that small annoyance can be avoided as well.

And unlike my previous Dymo label printer, I've never gotten a defective cartridge.

Good product, watch for sales

I find the Brother Label Maker very useful around the home.
These standard Tape Cartridges fit and work perfectly.
That said, if you are looking for the standard size (1/2"),
Black on White, be sure to shop around. I found while
the typical good price was about $10 each, Costco was selling
two full length (26') 1/2" cartridges for $19.99 and that
included the PT-1880 Label Maker too!

Dead Toner

We ordered this cartridge a few months before needing it. Once we did we found out that the toner would not function properly. Due to the length of time it took for us to use it we could not return it through Amazon which was reasonable. I contacted Great Toners and received an RMA number and shipping address for returning the item. One month after sending the item via USPS we received it back saying the address was not correct and that the forwarding address had expired. At this point it is not pursuing any further as we are now out the price of the toner and shipping.

This toner was the cheapest I could find, so I was a little nerous. But it has worked out better than I could have hoped! Clear, dark print just like HP, but cheaper.

Very Noisy

I installed the printer cartridge and drum and quite honestly it is very noisy. It kind of whistles while it prints. It arrived very well packed and sealed. Maybe I have a bit of a dud. As to it's cost effectiveness, the price was really good, but time will tell. Don't know if the whistling will stop. Just as well I don't print as much as I used to.

Great and at a Great Price

Found this listing after looking for a Black Toner for my Dell 1250C. I bought the printer at Sam's Club. They didn't carry the toner. Went to Staples, Best Buy, and Office Supply and none of them had in store toner. I could order from Staples and Dell for about $75

This is an original cartridge, not from Dell, but it's not a refill. And it popped right in and worked fine right off the bat. And for only $25.

It Works

Agreeing with the other reviewer I was a bit skeptical buying non-brand Brother ink. Especially with the reviews of the OTHER GENERICS THAT RUIN YOUR PRINTER.

I was eventually just going to give in and buy the name brand however after receiving this (2 days free shipping) I'm glad I made the purchase.

Initially, it would not recognize the ink..I was about to throw a fit. I waited a minute and pushed it back in and my Brother MFC-J425W recognized it the 2nd time. Promptly printed a couple of test pages and some shipping labels and the ink quality is fine.

It's way cheaper than the name brand, but works just as good. Definitely a hidden gem (5th page of "Lc75 ink" results).

Black replacement cartridge works perfectly in my Brother MFC-J835DW. Didn't even need to reinstall the other cartridges or reboot printer. Will definitely order more black and color cartridges from this supplier when needed. Only complaint was that I had trouble removing the small piece of plastic covering the ink nozzle. Otherwise, a superior product in every way.

Works great. Why spend more.

I ordered this roll of labels to go with my Zebra printer because I ran out unexpectedly. To my surprise they work just as well as the more expensive ones. They print well and stick well. What more do you want. Save yourself some money and order these instead. Make sure you order them with amazon prime to save shipping too.

Don't place tape over the printed label!!!!

I recently found out the hard way that these labels, if taped over with clear packaging tape, will have the printed area disappear. Use caution if using these as shipping labels.

*CD Labels*

Purchased the 40 label pack. Seemed to do the job, no peeling or major bubbles that couldn't be rubbed out. When printed on a laser jet the backing of the label leaves lines on the front. It didn't bug me that much because this was for a personal project. If you were labeling something professional, then it might be a hassle. However you can print on an ink jet printer and avoid this problem (although it might get costly).

Worked great on CDs, DVDs, and blu-rays

Some of the other reviews of this item make no sense and are factually incorrect when they say that these can not be used on DVDs. I just used them on some CDs, DVDs, and blu-rays tonight and they worked great on all three.
I will say that they are a bit see-through, so some discs might have stuff that shows through. For example, my blu-ray discs had some lines on them for hand writing and those lines show through these labels. My solution was to put graphics on the label over the parts that would show through. It worked very well.
I've got a black and white laser printer and experienced great results. I tried making labels with Nero and Microsoft Word, but I'll advise you to skip those and go straight to Avery's website, which is written on the packaging, and make labels there. You do it right in the browser for free and it worked way better than the other methods I tried.

Peel and stick

Shipped fast, they work, tired of buying labels, I need a cd dvd printer. Don't really use spines anymore, especially with the slim cases. I think 3 UP labels would be better. For the high producers, 40 will go fast.

The Brady M21-750-499 B-499 nylon cloth tape is 0.75" wide and 16' long, has a permanent acrylic adhesive and a polyamide coating, and prints in black text on a white background with a matte finish. Primo cable labeling material

Ditto on Teletech's assessment -- this is the best material we've found for creating ad hoc wiring and cable markers. I've never seen this unwrap itself from either small or huge diameter cable. And this particular nylon cloth material seems to be very resistant to oily atmosphere environments -- the text stays on it, unsmeared, which was not true for the various poly materials we tried.

If you are a wireman, these are the best labels around

Yes, there are the slip-fit or the shrinkable labels that may be a bit "fancier", but these nylon labels will be around your wire terminations long after you're dead. I have been back to the substations I have wired years later and these labels look the same as the day I printed them.
They will never fade and the cloth is super-strong and resistant to strain tears or other potential damage from the unwieldy or careless lineman. Yes, they are out there! They may seem expensive, but if you are good at what you do and are economical with your applications, they are well worth the money.
